Japanese Academic Writing Lab for International Students

Outline

This service allows international students in Hyogo Prefecture to consult in Japanese with a Japanese graduate student tutor on academic writing (academic texts such as university reports, theses, and presentation materials) that they are writing in Japanese, for 45 minutes per session, free of charge.

Types of writing for which support is available

  • Composition for Japanese language class
  • Class report or term paper
  • Thesis / Journal article
  • Presentation materials
  • Other writing (reserch plan, etc.)

Notes:
- Entry sheets and CVs are excluded.
-This is not a writing correction service.

Suitable for those who:

  • don’t know how to write a report or long essay
  • are not sure their writing structure and expressions in Japanese are correct
  • want to improve by the deadline, but not sure what to correct
  • struggle to produce a long piece of writing such as thesis and dissertation
  • lack time until the submission deadline, but want to produce a piece of writing as good as possible

Learn the way to write academic text such as writing structure and expressions with tutors. Don’t worry even if it is a long, unfinished or short-deadline piece of writing. The tutors will advise you which part of your writing can be improved, referring to what you have written.

How to book
  • Check availability in the calendar below. Enter the required fields to book.
  • You can book one session at a time. You need to finish the session to book another session.
  • There is no limit for the number of sessions that you can have. You can use this service unlimited times.
  • After you book, you will receive confirmation.
What to prepare before the session 1. Prepare your document files
  • Please prepare the document files of your essay, report, summary (résumé), composition, etc. You will be asked to send your document files after the session has started, so you don’t need send them in advance.
    Note: Document files should be editable, such as Microsoft Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx) and PowerPoint (.ppt). PDF files are not accepted.
  • If you have instruction materials for the contents or format for your assignment, please also prepare them in advance.
2. Prepare for the Zoom session
  • We use Zoom for online sessions. Download and install Zoom from https://zoom.us/.
  • Prepare the internet, a web camera and microphone.
On the day of the session
  • Enter the Zoom session on the time of booking. You will receive a link to enter Zoom by email by the time the session you booked begins.
  • Please have a 45-minute one-to-one session with a tutor. Once the session begins, you will be asked to send your document files through the Zoom chat.
